Toolbox 5

During the class of toolbox number 5, we first analyzed a collection, secondly, we designed a pair of sneakers and collaboration of the collection.

During that analysis, we were thinking of what we see was the inspirations the materials, the color palette, the fabric, the pattern, the shapes, this culture influences, the sculpture and more. We’ve also looked at the style of the catwalk, the background, as well with the attitude of the model during the runway. Lastly we also a lot of who is going to buy this collection.

I chose to work with the last collection of Balmain, designed by Oliver Rousting in Spring Summer 2022. Oliver brings a real glow, and glamorous touch to the brand.

A year ago Olivier suffered from an accident and got his whole body burnt. He has been hospitalized for a month. This collection was inspired by all the bandages and the pain he was going through during that month at the hospital. His skin color is the main change in physical appearance Change. This is why you have a lot of beige and light brown colors in the collection.

The collection has two acts the first one is more of a ready-to-wear and the second one is more of an Haute Couture. During the second act, you see more broderie and heavy stretching techniques. The first act has more stretchy and leather fabric with very few prints. The first act has very innovative accessories which inspired me for my sneakers creation.

For the second part of the class, I have designed sneakers a pair of sneakers inspired mainly by the second act of the collection Spring Summer 2022. For the shape of my sneaker, I was inspired by the boots in the first act of the collection.  They kind of look like moon-boots, but if you think of sneakers they kind of look like a pair of sneakers created a collaboration between Puma and Fenty. I decided to keep the same shape and change the pattern. One of the dresses of act number two of the collection created by Oliver, has a Broderie bouquet in the middle of the dress.  I have re-created this in the front of my shoes.

I really enjoyed analyzing the Spring Summer collection of Balmain. Designing a pair of sneakers was very fun. Due to the fact that it was a collaboration. Now, these collaborations are very trendy. Just like the Balenciaga and Gucci Collab.

I’ve struggled with the drawing but I’m really happy with it I’ve done my best. If I could improve on something it would be the materials I have used to create that drawing. Pencil and watercolor pencils do not match together. When I tried to bland my watercolor pencil it would remove my pencil lines.  It was a bit messy.

Otherwise I really enjoy it and I really like  my sneak design.
