TOOLBOX 8: fashion illustration

During toolbox 8, we are looking into the sketches we did in session 6. Since I now had a better vision of what my product would be, I was able to communicate my idea through a fashion illustration.

My initial idea was to create a spaceship universe around my product. Since my product is transparent it’s hard to include colors. In order to for the audience to understand my product, I’ve added an outfit under the see-through coat. As I explained drawing isn’t one of my strengths, but I have done my best. I tried multiple techniques and alternatives to create an outcome that would satisfy me.

During one of my trials, I’ve mixed collages and drawings. It was fun and it made me think of the skills I’ve developed during toolbox 4 with the creation of garments inspired by images we took in the museums. I choose not to continue working with the collage’s techniques due to the fact that it looked a little messy, and not as professional as I expect.

I believe that the hardest thing will be creating the illustration was to show this plastic look in the drawing. Getting the texture right on paper isn’t easy.  In previous drawings I’ve done, I am thinking about the one I have made for toolbox 5 the creation of a sneaker. I’ve used watercolors pencils. For this, I choose not to use the same materials due to the messy look it gives. I was not able to finish my illustration during class which is why I continued working at home.

I explored different drawing materials, as well as painting materials such as acrylic and ink. Since my coat is see-through, I choose to use a very light silver, white to be able to bring some color in, and I have also added an outfit under the coat to be able to bring more elements to my drawing.

This was a hard task for me since drawing isn’t one of my strengths. But made it, and I am happy with the result, even if it was easy.
